Preparing for Stage 3 T1D

Tzield is a medicine used to delay the start of Stage 3 T1D. This condition happens when the body cannot make enough insulin on its own and may need insulin injections.1

What are the symptoms of Stage 3 T1D?2

The symptoms for Stage 3 T1D are similar at any age, and you can remember the key symptoms as the 4Ts:

 

Toilet

Going for a wee more often (especially at night)

Thirsty

Being constantly thirsty and not being able to quench it

Tired

Feeling incredibly tired and lacking energy

Thinner

Losing weight without trying to, or looking thinner than usual

The 4Ts are the most common symptoms of Stage 3 T1D, but there are other symptoms that you can look out for:

  • Genital itching or thrush
  • Cuts and wounds that take a long time to heal
  • Blurry eyesight

What might happen if Stage 3 T1D is left undiagnosed?2,3

If insulin levels fall too low, the body can’t function properly. Without insulin, your body starts to break down fat to use for energy, which releases harmful chemicals called ketones. When ketones build up, they make your blood acidic and make you feel poorly. This is called diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).

DKA is a serious and life-threatening condition where you can become very ill, really quickly. Learn the symptoms of DKA so you can get help quickly.

Tzield is a medicine used to delay the start of Stage 3 Type 1 diabetes. This condition happens when the body cannot make enough insulin on its own and may need insulin injections. This medicine is used in adults and children aged 8 years and older who have Stage 2 Type 1 diabetes.1
